R(e)post of the Week: Facebook Launches Donate Button for Non-Profits

20 Dec

Earlier this week, Tech Crunch shared that Facebook has launched a donate now button for non-profits on their pages and at the bottom of their news feeds.  One of the 19 non-profits that is piloting the program is DonorsChoose.org, which many teachers use for classroom fundraisers. This addition will make it even easier to solicit donations from Facebook friends and followers. However, Tech Crunch also points out that this move may not be completely altruistic on Facebook’s part. The donate now button allows the company to collect payment info. for itself–something it is apparently lagging behind in compared to other tech giants such as Apple, Google and Amazon.
